heard the pin drop?

it's been rather quiet in here right? but how come no one asked me about it yet? hehe!

the reason is: this blog is moving out.

see the moving vehicle? everything's wrapped up. the new 'shell' is ready to be occupied. (love anime!)

from this entry onwards, there will not be any more activities in this blog. (bare minimum when necessary)

[adrian: dont look for the shining star next to my name anymore ok?]

the star will be shining somewhere else.

thank you all who read what i write. i enjoyed entertaining you as much as entertaining myself. hehe!

Grace, who?

watched Alias Grace yesterday with the crazy bunch from work. it was good! find info on the ongoing show here. so, curious me did a dig up and i found the below here. it's showing until this sunday. and ticket goes for just rm37. i think it'll be worth your while.

Grace Marks was an Upper Canadian maid who was convicted in 1843 of murder in the death of her employer Thomas Kinnear and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Marks was actually instrumental in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.

Marks was born and raised in Ireland, had 8 siblings, with another 3 who were stillborn. Marks's father was a stone mason, an alcoholic and abusive person. The family immigrated to Canada in 1840 when she was 12. Her mother died on the ship en route to Canada, and was buried at sea.

In her murder trial, Marks was tried alongside James McDermott. Marks was put in an asylum and later a penitentiary, while McDermott was hanged. After almost thirty years of incarceration, Marks was exonerated and moved to Northern New York. After that, all trace of her was lost.

In 1996, author Margaret Atwood published a novel about Marks, Alias Grace. In that novel's reviews, several critics pointed out eerie similarities between Marks and a more recently controversial Canadian murder convict, Karla Homolka.

i thank god

to be able to feel the breeze on my face.

cant remember the last time i felt that. it's been so hot these days that i dread leaving the confortable air-conditioned office. what a wonderful feeling it is to be able to stand in the breeze with arms uplifted. simple joy. really.

a question:
if a black cat crosses your path brings bad luck, how about a (black) crow flying right across your car? i was driving to work today and this darn crow just flew right across of me. luckily, i was not driving fast.

HOW TO GREEN YOUR PET

What's the Big Deal?

Ah, the pitter-patter of four-legged feet as they whip through your living room at overclocked speeds or uproot your prize gladiolas with manic fervor. But Snookiepuss and Mrs. Fluffypants are practically family, right? So why should they settle for anything less than top drawer when their health and wellbeing are at stake? Throw the planet a bone while you're at it; we've got the goods on how to reduce your pet's carbon paw prints -- without making your wallet roll over and play dead.

Top 10 Tips
Here are 10 highly effective ways to go greener. Hit it.

1. Adopt from a shelter
Pet breeders have only one goal in mind -- to raise large quantities of purebred animals for profit. They've also been pilloried for misdeeds such as overbreeding, inbreeding, poor veterinary oversight, lousy food and living conditions, overcrowding, and culling of unwanted animals. Why buy when you can adopt one of the 70,000 puppies and kittens born every day in the United States? Love knows no pedigree.

2. Spay or neuter your pet
Did we mention 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the United States? That's 15 puppies and 45 kittens for every hairless biped that slides out of a birth canal. And "multiplying like bunnies" isn't just any old trope. We don't need any more homeless animals than we already have. As a bonus, spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives by eliminating the possibility of uterine, ovarian, and testicular cancer, and decreasing the incidence of prostate disease.

3. Rein in your pets; protect native wildlife
Always keep your dog on a leash when outside, and confine your mangy feline indoors. Topped only perhaps by habitat destruction, cats are the biggest, baddest bird killers of all time. Even wind turbines have got nothing on them. While you may poo-poo high cat-related bird-mortality rates as collateral damage in the great circle of life, domestic cats do have an unfair advantage. Unlike wild predators, house cats are always well fed, well rested, and in tip-top fighting shape. They're also present in more concentrated (and rapidly increasing) numbers than say, the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike.

That aside, two out of three vets, according to the Humane Society of America, recommend keeping cats indoor, because of the dangers of cars, predators, disease, and other hazards. The estimated average life span of a free-roaming cat is less than three years; an indoors-only cat gets to live an average of 15 to 18 years. If kitty needs to heed the call of the wild, an outdoor cat enclosure is a good compromise.

4. Swap out the junk food
Most conventional pet-food brands you find at the supermarket consist of reconstituted animal by-products, otherwise known as low-grade wastes from the beef and poultry industries -- you know, inedibles you wouldn't touch with a 10-foot fork. In fact, the animals used to make many pet foods are classified as "4-D," which is really a polite way of saying "Dead, Dying, Diseased, or Down (Disabled)" when they line up at the slaughterhouse. Unless that can of Chicken 'n Liver Delite explicitly states that it contains FDA-certified, food-grade meat, you should know that its contents are considered unfit for human consumption -- but apparently good enough for your cat or pooch.

Now, since nutrition is one of the key determinants of health and resistance to disease, ideally you'll want your pet's chow to be comparable in quality with what we would eat.

Natural and organic pet foods use meats that are raised in sustainable, humane ways without added drugs or hormones, it's minimally processed, and preserved with natural substances, such as vitamins C and E. Certified-organic pet foods must meet strict USDA standards that spell out how ingredients are produced and processed, which means no pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, artificial preservatives, artificial ingredients or genetically engineered ingredients.

5. Clean up their poop
Scoop up your doggie doo in biodegradable poop bags so your buddy's No. 2 isn't immortalized in a plastic bag, while deep-sixed in a landfill somewhere for hundreds of years. Cat owners should avoid clumping clay litter at all costs. Not only is clay strip-mined (bad for the planet), but the clay sediment is also permeated with carcinogenic silica dust that can coat little kitty lungs (bad for the cat). Plus, the sodium bentonite that acts as the clumping agent can poison your cat through chronic ingestion through their fastidious need to groom. Because sodium bentonite acts like expanding cement -- it's also used as a grouting, sealing, and plugging material -- it can swell up to 15 to 18 times its dry size and clog up your cat's insides. Eco-friendly cat litters avoid these problems; a happy cat is a cat that doesn't claw your face off.

6. Give them sustainable goods
Your furry friends can get in on some saving-the-planet goodness, too -- and have plenty of fun -- with toys made from recycled materials or sustainable fibers (sans herbicides or pesticides) such as hemp. A hemp collar (and matching leash) are rocking accessories for a tree-hugging mutt. These days, you can even get pet beds made with organic cotton or even recycled PET bottles.

7. Use natural pet-care and cleaning products
You don't use toxic-chemical-laced shampoos and beauty products, so lather up your cats and dogs (or ferrets, rabbits or hamsters -- we don't judge) with natural pet-care products, as well. And if your cat horks up a hairball, or Fifi doesn't make it all the way to the bathroom, clean up the mess with cleaning products that are as gentle on the planet as they are on your critters' delicate senses.

8. Pets, not fads
Sure, everyone's ovaries ping when they see a five-year-old moppet cradle a tiny chick or a bunny during Easter, but nature dictates that baby bunnies grow up into rabbits, and little chicks into full-size chickens. Unless everyone involved understands that a pet is a long-term commitment that involves demands on both their time and money, you're better off giving the kid a stuffed animal. Impulse buying (say, rushing out an grabbing the next available Dalmatian puppy after watching 101 Dalmatians) isn't a good idea, either, as the large numbers of fad dogs that pass through shelters (often to their death) can attest. Repeat after us -- especially you, Paris Hilton: Pets are not fads or fashion accessories.

9. Melt the ice, nicely
Use a child- and pet-safe deicer such as Safe Paw's environmentally friendly Ice Melter. Rock salt and salt-based ice-melting products, which kids and animals might accidentally ingest, can cause health problems, while contaminating wells and drinking supplies.

10. Tag your pet
It might be a stretch to call inserting an electronic ID chip into your pet an eco-friendly move, but losing your buddy causes extreme emotional distress that turns you into nobody's friend. Then there's the paper waste from printing out missing posters, the fuel cost of driving around your neighborhood trying to find them, the phone bill as you bawl your eyes out to everyone you know & well, you get the idea. Ask your vet for more info. For hanging tags, check out these recyclable (and recycled) aluminum ID tags and these WaggTaggs made from recycled silver.

back! tired.. but back.

i tell you ar.. i old already la.. no longer can i do my north-south-work+leisure thing as well as i used to. like so tired, can die. this will be a super damn long post? im not sure. see how long can i merepek before i gets tired of it la.

so, i story you from last sat lo.

backtrack a little bit. friday, aunty (ex-landlady) came over to stay for a week. she's on holiday since her migration to new zealand. sheena picked up geof from 1u on friday night. (aeroline stops at 1u now. at the parking space behind the new wing). back to teman aunty for the weekend. so sweet. and still available. any takers?

sat 23 june 07: morning
morning morning i wakey, drove to kl to pick up ching and david from Impiana Hotel (where?). that's right. where? i think it's new. it's on jln pinang, opposite the entrance to kl convention centre. so i thought, it's sat and past 9am rush hour, traffic shouldnt be a prob. i was dead wrong! and didnt help that i dont really know exactly where the hotel was (i nearly missed the turning). but all's well. picked them up, went to church in glemarie area using the nkve because i really wouldnt want to risk getting caught in another jam.

quick info
the church: Church of Divine Mercy. this church is right smack in the centre of the glenmarie industrial area. until you get there, you will not believe that there is a church there. apparently, this church took 28 years to be finally built. read it here. why? perhaps because it falls under the jurisdiction of the MPSA?
the people: saw many high school friends that i havent met for the longest time. some singles, some attached, some married, some with kids. happy all the same to meet with them again. and jooann looks beautiful. but of course! and, saw mr. vincent soo again. much admired science teacher back in school. a really cool and great teacher. from him i learnt more jumbled up words. hehe! like: 'buka page mukasurat' (open to page), 'bell sudah bunyi' (it's the bell aka end of period) or my personal favourite, 'lain kali, bawa rumah dalam beg' (next time, pack your house into your bag).
most heart warming: i saw 2 girls in tudung in the church. you see, being in a church is not necessarily about religion. we are all there to celebrate our friends' wedding. that is all there is to it.

sat 23 june 07: afternoon
weather: extremely hot!
so after church kan, went home and showered and change. most importantly, played with bosco because once we leave the house, will only be back like really late. poor bosco. too bad we cant take him into the concert ground.

we met up with leen at ss2 about 4pm, then straight we hit the road that took us to genting. sammi, sammi sammi!! we sampai about 6 and had a good long dinner at happy valley restaurant. food's so-so but because we were early, we got our food in good time, a good table and we sat and ate and chat until like about 8pm? then we enter the concert ground scavenging for sammi's stuffs to buy. too bad. only selling some compilation cds and karaoke cds.. so disappointed! warner didnt do too much of a good job this time. looks like they were more about selling off old stuffs that they couldnt sell off. what the hell? should use this opportunity to sell more sammi's original premium stuffs rather than using this as a reason to sell off old stuffs. you can always have a warehouse sale. what pisses me off further is how they sold their wares. particularly the 3 cds for the price of rm45. so, that is a cheap buy. but it's really all old songs (nice, but old) and they keep harping on the free book inside (it was sealed). so when we opened it, that 'book' was just lyrics. out of all the pages in that book, only 2 miserable pages has pictures of sammi, actually, pictures of her old album covers. so blah!

but the concert itself was great. friends said the sound system in arena of stars is not fantastic. to me, the space is also important. a concert in bukit jalil can have fantastic sound, but due to the size, you more often that not, only catch the artist on the screen because the stage is so far away from you. i dont mind to compensate the sound quality (as long as it doesnt suck all that bad) to being able to see the artist up close. we got ps2 tickets. leen was actually waiting to purchage the vip tickets. but as usual, they are usually all given out the well, vips. patrons and guests of sponsors. so by the time they start to sell tickets, vips are usually gone. this time, ps1 was gone too. luckily we are still very near to the stage. both days, the concert tickets were sold out. she was performing to a full house. a full, cheering house of fans. i noticed fans from singapore. i believed sammi only did malaysia in her asia round. much love. and, she's looking much better. not so emancipated. energy level of high throughout. and i had a good time. on top of that, i also entertained myself with the shadow play on the walls. the lights and elaborate costumes casts interesting shadows on the walls. not sure if anyone noticed that. all in all, im glad i went and im glad she's looking well.

we got home past 2am. tired. happy but tired.

sun 24 june 07 - wed 27 june 07
went back taiping with bosco. lee is back. so catch up time for the family. bro changed his car. damn shit! now everyone better and richer than insignificant little me. i want a honda too. i think i will have to quit this job and start a kuey teow goreng stall to be able to achieve that. sis-in-law is pregnant. great news! little pattering feet around the house is good. keeps the attention on them and off us. haha! but there are like so many old traditions all that gotta be followed. cant do this, do that.. dont do that, can do this.. like that lo. but it's ok. im sure everyone's more than glad to follow everything to the t.

too bad taiping was so bloody hot. couldnt even bring bosco to the lake gardens as originally planned. sigh! me myself was like sweating and taking showers like an average of 4 times a day. so not happening.

my cousin zach got a chihuahua. it seems he got it way before i got bosco. so it was 'dog-talk'. her name is bibi. she is so small. she is the real toy. and like bosco, she doesnt bark a lot. which is a good thing. i like that in a dog. dont like dogs that bark a lot. my aunty fees bibi boiled(?) chicken breast everyday. she is so pampered. bosco is so not hearing this. he is getting dry food and that is. at least until he's bigger. or when im more free to cook for him. found out they feed bibi chocolates. i must say this, DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG CHOCOLATES! it will kill them. ingredient in chocolates is not harmful to humans but are to dogs. so yeah, unfortunately for the chocolate boss, he will never get to eat chocolates.

thu 28 june 07
back to work. but it's so hot.. how to work? brain like all roasted up. how to think?

fri 29 june 07
took bosco for his first haircut. now he got short short hair. he got some rashes. hopefully now they will heal faster since his hair is short now. we will need to slowly keep trimming his hair so that he hair will be nicer.

sat 30 june 07 - sun 1 july 07
i was working! supervising at the amway product fair in sunway convention centre. figured i need to earn some extra money for bosco. hehe! it was not hard work, but it's long hours and tiring.. i have to be on my feet almost all the time. and the people.. thy were 'swamping' towards the booths. it was all crazy to me. i cant tune in with that mentality. perhaps that's why i will never make it big in direct sales. they were such an enthusiastic crowd. queueing up for this and for that. for me it's always, if you want it that bad, i'll give it to you.

oh no! i'll always stay a poor poor person. no honda for me. no rm800k bungalows for me (i need one to own more dogs).. sigh! *grins*

mon 2 july 07
that brings us back to do-oh-oh-oh.. today!

as far as monday goes, im feeling a-ok! considering after all the hustle-bustle, numb feet & toes, yet unwashed laundry and quick fast food take-aways, im ok.

it's july and im raring to go. 2nd half of the year. still happy and glad to be living life the way im doing right now. all's cool. what's in the pipeline? well.. my birthday celebration of course. *BIG HINT*!! and, maybe hainan island in october. maybe i will still get to travel overseas this year. who knows. but from where im standing looking ahead, the view is pretty good.

hope 2007 is treating you all great too.
